Andy Zapata was born and raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where his passion for dance blossomed during family gatherings filled with music and movement. This early exposure laid the foundation for his journey in choreography and dance.
His professional dance career began at LCHS Performing Dance, where he held the roles of Team Captain and Assistant Choreographer from 2013 to 2015. Seeking new challenges after high school, Andy joined Motion Headquarters in El Paso, Texas, where his dedication and hard work earned him the positions of Director, Choreographer, and Team Captain in 2015 and 2016. His passion for dance continued to thrive as he relocated to Arizona, becoming one of the Choreographers and Assistant Directors for Jig Fam in 2019, a role he proudly holds today.
Throughout his career, Andy has participated in numerous dance competitions, securing several notable achievements. He earned 2nd Place Champion at World of Dance Houston in 2015, 3rd Place Champion at World of Dance Las Vegas in 2016, and 3rd Place Champion at World of Dance Dallas in 2017. His talent also took him to Hip Hop International Mexico in 2017, and he competed in Jaquel Knight’s March Madness Choreographer Contest in 2021. Among his most significant accomplishments, Andy was crowned 1st Place Dance Champion at the Monsters of Hip Hop A-list Competition in 2022, as well as securing 1st Place Champion at America’s Cup El Paso in 2016 and back-to-back 1st Place Champion titles at Sun City Dance Classic in 2017 and 2018.
In addition to his competitive success, Andy has shared his expertise through various workshops and showcases. He participated in the Snatched and Slayed Summer Intensive in Houston, Texas, in 2016, served as a guest instructor at Garage 713 in Houston in June 2021, and showcased his work at the Motion Headquarters La Fiesta Showcase from 2016 to 2018. Most recently, his talents were featured at the prestigious Rihanna Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show in 2023.
With a deep commitment to his craft and a passion for helping others achieve their goals through dance, Andy continues to embrace new opportunities and challenges in his ever-evolving journey.
